As part of our Long Term Conditions Plan, Greenwich GPPNs needed to provide a Spirometry Service for patients. Funding was therefore allocated to all Practices in Greenwich to purchase a new Spirometer.
After reviewing various models, we decided to purchase the SpiroConnect system from Numed Healthcare, which is fully integrated with the three leading clinical systems, Vision, EMIS and SystmOne. The integration software automatically uploads the patient details into the Spirometry software, and at the end of the test files a high quality pdf spirometry report and all relevant spirometry, Asthma, COPD and SpO2 Read codes directly into the correct patient’s medical record. Not only is this a better way of testing in terms of patient safety, but also quicker and easier for the nursing team, saving up to 10 minutes administration time per test.
Our Practices have now been using the SpiroConnect systems for 2 – 3 months, and it is clear that the equipment has allowed our GPPN to offer a better level of care to a group of patients with complex needs, thus reducing demand for community and acute services.
